The writing paper is what surprises most B1 passers. You cannot rely on natural conversation skills alone.

Study Time — Realistic Expectations

Every learner is different. As a guide:

• B1 from scratch: 3–6 months of regular study
• B1 → B2: 2–3 months of focused study
• B2 from scratch: 6–12 months of regular study

If you already hold B1 and use English at work every day, 6–8 weeks of writing-focused prep may be enough. If you rarely write in English, plan for longer.

Which Test Should You Book at B2?

There are four approved SELT providers at B2:

The IELTS Score Rule at B2

For B2 with IELTS for UKVI, you must score:

• Listening: 5.5 or higher
• Reading: 5.5 or higher
• Writing: 5.5 or higher
• Speaking: 5.5 or higher
