Who Is LanguageCert?
LanguageCert is a UK-based Ofqual-regulated awarding body. Its International ESOL exams are recognised by UKVI as Secure English Language Tests. It offers SELT exams at multiple CEFR levels, including B1 and B2.
For UK immigration, only the UKVI SELT versions of LanguageCert exams count. General LanguageCert certificates from non-UKVI sittings do not count for settlement.
What the LanguageCert B2 SELT Tests
At B2, LanguageCert tests all four skills:
Speaking
- One-to-one with an examiner (in-person or online-proctored)
- Structured tasks: introduction, discussion, longer turn
- Structured tasks with an examiner — confirm exact timing on the LanguageCert SELT page
Listening
- Short recordings and longer conversations
- Multiple-choice and short-answer tasks
Reading
- Texts on general and semi-abstract topics
- Multiple-choice and gap-fill
Writing
- Structured tasks — usually an email/letter and a longer piece
- Assessed on task response, coherence, vocabulary and grammar
Always confirm the exact timing and task breakdown on the official LanguageCert UKVI SELT page at selt.languagecert.org before booking.

How to Prepare for LanguageCert B2
1. Diagnose your level. Take a free B2 mock. Score each skill separately. Note the weakest area.
2. Build a 10–12 week study plan. Aim for 4–6 hours per week split across:
- Reading practice (news articles, opinion pieces)
- Writing practice (2–3 short pieces per week)
- Listening (podcasts, recorded interviews)
- Speaking (recorded answers, conversation practice)
3. Use official sample materials. LanguageCert publishes sample papers. Practise under timed conditions.
4. Focus on writing. Most B2 failures are in writing. Get feedback from a teacher or a strong English speaker.
5. Book with 4–6 weeks to go. Book far enough ahead to secure a slot near you, close enough to keep your prep momentum.
